The Holiday Party is an annual event to raise funds for the AWAF Scholarship program. This occasion is a tradition that dates back even before the Foundation was founded 21 years ago, to our original organization, AWA (now AWA+D) for at least the past 50 years!

All this time, the AWAF scholarships have encouraged talented women studying architecture, planning, interiors, landscape architecture, and engineering in California schools, and helping them stay in school.  Our scholarships have helped over 150 women to stay with their studies.

If you can attend this year, please RSVP by the deadline of November 26, and even if you cannot attend, we hope you will consider a gift to the AWAF Scholarship Program.  We deeply appreciate gifts at all levels; a gift of $2,500 provides a scholarship naming opportunity.  Go to https://awafholiday2018.bpt.me/ for more information and to make your donation.

Join the Advocacy Committee to discuss our second reading – The Parlour Guides to Equitable Practice by Justine Clark.

Description: Architecture is in the midst of substantial change. How architects define themselves, how practices operate, and the range of roles and types of work pursued – all is up for grabs. Many architects are now asking for a more inclusive profession, one that assists women and men to better balance their professional and personal lives, to realize their full potential, and to stay in the profession. The Parlour Guides help facilitate this change. Addressed to practices, employees and the wider profession, they outline the key issues facing women in architectural workplaces and provide positive, productive strategies and suggestions for change.

The Parlour Guides are available for free download:

We’ll be discussing the selected Parlour Guides:

01: Pay Equity

06: Career Progression

07: Negotiation

09: Leadership

Beautiful design is born from creative collaborations. Collaboration isn’t easy and often is not beautiful. It requires staying curious, shifting perspective, circling back and brave leadership from everyone. Learn about how empathy and self-compassion nurtures creative collaboration, what are the attributes of empathy, what empathy looks like and barriers to it.

As a Certified Daring Way™ Candidate, Julie Caruso will lead us through a two hour workshop based on the research and work of Dr. Brenè Brown, whose twenty year career has been on studying courage, vulnerability, shame and empathy. Brenè’s TED talk- The Power of Vulnerability is one of the top five most watched TED talks in the world and if possible is a great precursor to watch, prior to the workshop.

Hosted in the beautifully lit Louis Poulsen Showroom, this is an event you won’t want to miss. Light dinner and drinks will be provided.

Julie Caruso is the founder of Alchemy Coaching and is a Certified Executive Coach and holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Through her process-driven guidance and action-focused framework based on Adult Development Theory, Positive Psychology principles, and Design Thinking, Julie helps her clients who are women in their professional prime go from feeling static to energized and fulfilled in their careers and lives.

Availability is limited, don’t miss out!
